Privacy Policy
What data the Village Government website processes, why, and how we protect it.
Updated 10 October 2026
This policy explains what data is processed when you visit the Village Government website, why, and how we protect it.
1. Data we process
Visitors do not need to register or sign in to read the site. We do not run ads or install third-party advertising trackers.
To count readers, the server records one visit per article per day as a random code (hash) derived from the IP address and browser type using the application secret key. IP addresses are not stored, and the code cannot be turned back into an IP address.
The web server may keep temporary technical logs for security and troubleshooting.
2. Storage on your device
Display preferences such as language, light/dark mode, accent colour, and article text size are stored in your own browser (a language cookie and localStorage) and are not used for any other purpose.
Session cookies and security (CSRF) tokens are only used when village staff sign in to the management dashboard.
3. Third-party services
Images are served through Cloudinary. Embedded videos use YouTube privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Share buttons and WhatsApp/email contacts open those services only when you click them; their own privacy policies apply.
The form on the Contact page opens your email app; its contents are not stored by this website.
4. Staff & newsroom
Dashboard accounts store name, email, and activity history (article changes, sign-ins) for accountability. Audit logs are pruned automatically after two years and read notifications after 90 days.
Writers’ names appear on their stories. Photo, title, and bio only appear on the writer and Newsroom pages when the account owner turns on their public profile; email addresses are never shown.
5. Your rights & contact
You may ask for personal data shown on this website — including your name in a story — to be corrected or removed via the Village Government contacts on the Contact page. This policy may be updated; the date of the latest update is shown above.
